AN INTRODUCTION
Mold Making
The Webster's Dictionary gives several definitions for 'mold' -- 1) a pattern, a hollow form, or matrix for giving a certain form to something in a plastic or molten state 2) a pattern after which something is formed; model 3) something formed or shaped in or on, or as if in or on, a mold 4) the form or shape given by a mold 5) to make a mold of or from in order to make a casting.

Mold making is a learned process.  This process encompasses both crafting and engineering.  The crafting side involves being creative. The engineering side of mold making involves a precision along with the  technical knowledge to advance the mold to a useful state.

Learning mold making is a matter of practice.  The saying that 'practice makes prefect'  applies to mold making and mold makers. Knowing each step in its proper order and not allowing yourself to get too far ahead in the process becomes the discipline of the mold maker.  A simply shortcut may save time, but if the shortcut results in a major catastrophe than saving time is meaningless.

Instilling positive values while learning mold making is just one key to learning mold making.  Another is practicing the art of being patient and staying within yourself when it appears that everything is crashing down.

Most people can purchase a video, or a 'DIY' book on mold making.  But nothing will never replace learning mold making from a qualified instructor with years of practical experience.  Just having someone there to tell you that everything will turn out all right and that it is not the end of the world, is something the book and video can not give you.
