From the model, we sanded, and polished the finished model.

Designing and constructing molding with the right amount of draft

Most architectural projects begin with a drawing.  Much pre-planning and pre-thinking goes into these projects before the actual pattern making begins.  It is better and less expensive to work out the design conflicts and problems on paper first.  Making the actual model is done quickly and accurately.

Shown in these pictures are the drawings for a particular tile project.

Most of our architecture molding and tile projects are quite large in scope.   A lot of thinking and care is taken to ensure that these projects are successful.  In the project shown on the left-hand side of this page not only are we doing the designing and mold making of this specialty tile, but we are also doing the manufacturing.  And there is little or no tolerance for error.  Each tile must be precision built in order to into a hanging rack.

The third picture shows the finished tile.

At Masterline, we develop new products and new designs for Architectural Interior and Exterior Molding Companies. Our focus on making 3-D models makes a leader in the design.

Some people are under the impression that designing specialty moldings or headers is done using existing wooden trims.  Some people think it is as simple as going to the local box store to purchase an assortment of standard trims and then nailing or gluing them together.

Using wood trims and moldings to develop plaster and polyurethane moldings is not a wise choice. The wood trim companies set the saw blades to cut exactly on the perpendicular which leaves no draft. And as there is no draft, de-molding the finished products can be difficult and in a lot of cases the life of the mold is shorten.  Also chances are the silicone rubber will pick up the wood grain.

At Masterline Molds, we design your product the correct way. We working with plaster to form each piece with enough draft to make de-molding a snap.  And because your items are designed the correct way, your silicone molds will last longer and there is no annoying wood grain showing on the finished items.

Designing in plaster will make all your items absolutely smooth and when the plaster is polished, your new silicone molds will produce amazing results.
